Chapter One: Where It All Began

At a cultural celebration, a conversation became a friendship.

A friendship became a shared vision.

That vision became SheLeadsNC.

What began as two women learning from one another grew into a belief that women across North Carolina have something valuable to share and something meaningful to gain.

Every woman has a story.

Every woman has wisdom.

Every woman has something to teach.

Every woman has something to learn.

SheLeadsNC was created to bring women together through storytelling, leadership, service, and community.

This is just the beginning.

Where It Began
The start

Listening before launching.

Before we wrote the site or named the pillars, we sat down with women over meals, in homes, and across shared tables. The idea was simple: listen first, then build.

Those conversations made it clear that women wanted a space where their stories, leadership, and everyday work were all taken seriously.

The Women We’ve Met
The people

Entrepreneurs, educators, mothers, students, public servants.

We met women who were running businesses, teaching classes, organizing neighborhoods, Women leading in govt., leading in faith communities, raising families, and figuring out what comes next.

The range mattered. It showed us that leadership in North Carolina does not live in one lane or one zip code.

Building Relationships Across North Carolina
The reach

Travel, repeat visits, and real trust.

Relationships did not happen in one visit. They were built by coming back, checking in, showing up, and carrying the conversation from one part of North Carolina to another.

We moved from city sidewalks to porches, from coffee shops to homes, and from introductions to honest friendships.

What it became

A table that is still growing.

What started as outreach became a shared table. What started as a question became a community.

SheLeadsNC is still unfolding, but the foundation is already here in the people we met, the trust we built, and the stories we were trusted to carry.
